Permission codes

Sometimes you may want to take a course you feel ready for but you don't meet the official prerequisites. In these cases, you can apply for a permission code from the College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS) to let you enrol in COMP/ENGN-coded courses in ISIS.
Examples:
- You're a first year with a good maths background and want to take COMP2620
- You've worked on lots of side projects in an object oriented language and want to skip COMP1110 and still get into courses that require it
- You've studied lots of maths courses and want to do COMP4670 without going through COMP3670 first
Process: (note that courses from different colleges may have different processes!)
- The permission code form for all CECS courses is here: https://cecs.anu.edu.au/current-students/policies-and-resources/enrolling-cecs-courses. It closes on the first day of each semester
- Wait up to 10 business days for an email with the result. Your application is first screened by CECS staff and then sent to the lecturer
- If you're approved, you'll get an Outlook email with a code. When enrolling in the course in ISIS, paste this code in the "Permission code" field
- If you're rejected and you think you should be approved, consider asking on the CSSA Discord for advice or emailing the lecturer directly to politely ask them to follow up with CECS
Advice
- There's no harm in requesting a permission code even if you think it's a long-shot! Many courses list irrelevant prerequisites
- There's no shame in asking the lecturer to review your case if you're rejected - well-founded permission code requests are frequently mistakenly rejected by admin staff!
